Hawkers Dupe Elderly Woman of Lakhs in Gold Jewelry in Howrah

• An elderly woman in Deulpur, Howrah, was conned out of gold jewelry worth several lakhs by two men disguised as hawkers.
• The culprits used a powder to seemingly intoxicate the 70-year-old Mridula Mondal, making her unable to resist as they removed her ornaments.
• They promised to make the jewelry shinier, packed it in a powder-filled packet, and replaced it with plastic bangles before fleeing.
• Mridula Mondal's son and daughter-in-law, both goldsmiths, reported the incident to Panchla Police Station upon returning home.
• Police are investigating, examining CCTV footage which shows two youths on a motorcycle involved in the crime.
