Hybrid Funds Dominate India's SIF Market with 84% AUM Share

  • Hybrid long-short strategies account for 84% of India's Specialised Investment Fund (SIF) assets under management (AUM), totaling ₹5,485 crore as of January 31, 2026.
  • Equity-oriented long-short strategies hold a significantly smaller share, with ₹1,079 crore, or 16% of total SIF AUM.
  • Between October 2024 and January 2026, hybrid long-short funds attracted ₹5,456 crore, representing 83% of total SIF inflows.
  • The preference for hybrid strategies reflects a demand for built-in risk management, combining equity exposure with hedging tools like futures and options.
  • Despite their dominance within the SIF space, SIFs remain a very small fraction of India's overall mutual fund industry, which reached ₹82 trillion in AUM by January 2026.
