India's Tourism Crisis: 73% Drop in Bangladeshi Tourists Sinks FTA to 3-Year Low
•
India's Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTA) in 2025 dropped to a three-year low of 9.016 million, falling below pre-pandemic levels.
•
The primary reason for the decline is a sharp 73% reduction in Bangladeshi tourists, from 1.75 million in 2024 to 470,000 in 2025.
•
Bangladesh, once India's largest source of FTAs, fell to fifth position in 2025, surpassed by countries like the US, UK, Australia, and Canada.
•
Excluding Bangladeshi visitors, foreign tourist arrivals in India actually increased by about 4% in 2025, indicating a shift towards distant markets.
•
The decline coincided with 'Operation Sindoor' and India-Pakistan tensions in mid-2025, and foreign exchange earnings from tourism also decreased.
