Bangladeshi Visitor Plunge: India's Foreign Tourist Arrivals Hit 3-Year Low in 2025
•
India recorded 90.16 lakh Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in 2025, the lowest in three years and below pre-pandemic levels.
•
A significant 73% drop in Bangladeshi visitors, from 17.5 lakh in 2024 to 4.7 lakh in 2025, was the primary reason for the decline.
•
Historically India's largest source market, Bangladesh's share in FTAs fell from 24% in 2019 to 5% in 2025, now ranking fifth.
•
Excluding Bangladesh, India's FTAs actually grew by 4% in 2025, indicating a shift towards long-haul markets like the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia.
•
Foreign exchange earnings from tourism also dropped to $31.33 billion in 2025 from a record $35.02 billion in 2024.
