PM Modi inaugurates Northeast's first Emergency Landing Facility in Assam

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Northeast's first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Assam's Dibrugarh district on February 14.
• The ELF is a dual-use infrastructure, a 4.2 km highway stretch convertible into a runway for emergency operations.
• It can handle fighter aircraft (up to 40 tons) and transport aircraft (up to 74 tons), built at a cost of ₹100 crore.
• Its strategic location near the Chinese border enhances the Air Force's operational capabilities and provides an alternative base.
• The facility will also aid in disaster relief, enabling rapid delivery of supplies and facilitating rescue operations.
