Pune Water Crisis: WRD Ultimatum Over 948 Cr Dues; Supply Cut Feared From Tuesday

Pune faces potential water cut from Tuesday (24th) due to 948 crore rupees in overdue bills for the Khadakwasla project.
•
The Water Resources Department issued an ultimatum to Pune Municipal Corporation to deposit the money by next Monday (23rd).
•
PMC is accused of using 8-9 TMC additional water annually beyond its 11.60 TMC quota, leading to 300 crore annual dues.
•
Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram's claim of 411 crore deposit with WRD was dismissed as 'baseless' by the department.
•
PMC also faces large penalties for releasing 13 TMC untreated sewage directly into the river, adding to the dispute.
