Pune's Last Rites Crisis: 18 Gas Crematoriums Shut Amid Global Fuel Shortage
•
Pune faces a severe crisis as 18 gas crematoriums, including Vaikunth, Vishrantwadi, Koregaon Park, Aundh, Katraj, and Hadapsar, are shut down.
•
The closure is a direct consequence of global conflicts involving America, Israel, and Iran, leading to a commercial gas supply shortage.
•
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has halted operations of these gas-based facilities until further notice due to disrupted gas supply.
•
Residents now face long waiting times for last rites, with traditional wooden pyres being the only available alternative.
•
Manisha Shekatkar, Head of Electrical Dept, PMC, confirmed crematoriums will reopen once gas supply normalizes.
