5.5 Magnitude Quake Rocks Central Turkey; Residents Flee Homes, No Damage Reported

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck central Turkey (Türkiye) on Friday, with its epicenter in the Niksar district of Tokat province.
•
Tremors were felt at 3:35 AM local time on Thursday night, causing residents to flee their homes and household items to shake.
•
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a depth of 35 km, while AFAD stated 6.4 km.
•
No damage or adverse developments have been reported so far from this moderate intensity earthquake.
•
Turkey is highly earthquake-prone; a 7.8 magnitude quake in 2023 claimed over 53,000 lives in Turkey and 6,000 in Syria.
