97-Year-Old UK Woman Dies After 10-Day Ambulance Delay for Suspected Hip Fracture
•
Babette Burge, 97, from Isle of Wight, died after a 10-day ambulance wait for a suspected fractured hip.
•
A paramedic noted her leg was 'shortened and rotated' five days before her fall, a classic sign of a fractured hip.
•
She was found on her home floor on October 19, 2025, after suffering a fall while awaiting transfer to St Mary’s Hospital.
•
Despite her severe injury and advanced age, she was told an ambulance would not be available for ten days.
•
An inquest recorded pneumonia as the cause of death, with immobility and a left femoral fracture as contributing factors.
