India Snubs Israeli Barak-8 for Russian Shtil-1: Strategic Shift in Naval Defense
•India finalized a Rs 2,182 crore deal with Russia for the 'Shtil-1' Vertical Launch Missile System for its warships.
•This decision comes despite India already possessing the advanced Israeli 'Barak-8' (MR-SAM) system.
•Shtil-1 was chosen for its lower cost, ease of mass production, and suitability for smaller warships with budget constraints, balancing quality with quantity.
•The missile offers 360-degree security, can track and engage 12 targets simultaneously, and has a range of 3.5 km to 50 km.
•Talwar-class, Shivalik-class, and Delhi-class destroyers will be equipped with Shtil-1 as part of mid-life upgrades for modern warfare.
