CM Vijayan to Inaugurate Akkulam-Chettuva Waterway Phase 1 on Feb 26
•Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the first phase of the 280-km Akkulam-Chettuva Waterway at Chilakoor Beach Park, Varkala on February 26.
•The Waterway is a key part of Kerala’s 616-km Kovalam–Bekal waterway project, linking lakes, rivers, and man-made canals across the state.
•The project aims to boost logistics and tourism, with CIAL developing tourism-oriented beautification works and an electric boat for a 'Light and Sound Show' in the Chilakoor Tunnel.
•Various infrastructure developments include bridges, boat jetties, canal dredging, and beautification initiatives across multiple locations.
•Approximately Rs 280 crore of the Rs 325 crore Phase-1 outlay has been used for improving living conditions for residents along the canal, alongside rehabilitation measures through the Punargeham project.
