CM Vijayan to Inaugurate Akkulam-Chettuva Waterway Phase 1 on Feb 26

• Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the first phase of the 280-km Akkulam-Chettuva Waterway at Chilakoor Beach Park, Varkala on February 26.
• The Waterway is a key part of Kerala’s 616-km Kovalam–Bekal waterway project, linking lakes, rivers, and man-made canals across the state.
• The project aims to boost logistics and tourism, with CIAL developing tourism-oriented beautification works and an electric boat for a 'Light and Sound Show' in the Chilakoor Tunnel.
• Various infrastructure developments include bridges, boat jetties, canal dredging, and beautification initiatives across multiple locations.
• Approximately Rs 280 crore of the Rs 325 crore Phase-1 outlay has been used for improving living conditions for residents along the canal, alongside rehabilitation measures through the Punargeham project.
