DGGI busts Rs 593 crore fake invoice fraud, mastermind arrested in Bengaluru

• The Belagavi zonal unit of DGGI unearthed a fake input tax credit racket worth approximately Rs 593 crore.
• Investigation into a suspicious GST registration led to searches on premises linked to Star Tax Consultant in Bengaluru.
• The network issued fake invoices without actual supply of goods or services, enabling wrongful ITC of nearly Rs 235 crore.
• Mohammad Saifullah, a registered GST practitioner, was identified as the mastermind, managing multiple non-existent GSTINs.
• Saifullah was arrested on February 24 in Bengaluru and remanded to judicial custody in Belagavi.
