DMRC Swaps Copper for Aluminum to Combat Cable Thefts, Boost Reliability

• DMRC to replace copper signalling and power cables with aluminium across 175 km of its network.
• The project, costing Rs 32.59 crore, aims to 'theft-proof' the system and improve auxiliary power supply reliability.
• Vulnerable sections like Yamuna Bank, Airport Express Line, and Pink Line near Seelampur and Welcome stations are targeted.
• Repeated copper thefts caused power failures, signalling disruptions, and train delays, with 89 incidents reported last year.
• Switching to aluminium is expected to make infrastructure less attractive to thieves and ensure service punctuality.
