DMRC Swaps Copper for Aluminum to Combat Cable Thefts, Boost Reliability

DMRC to replace copper signalling and power cables with aluminium across 175 km of its network.

The project, costing Rs 32.59 crore, aims to 'theft-proof' the system and improve auxiliary power supply reliability.
•
Vulnerable sections like Yamuna Bank, Airport Express Line, and Pink Line near Seelampur and Welcome stations are targeted.
•
Repeated copper thefts caused power failures, signalling disruptions, and train delays, with 89 incidents reported last year.
•
Switching to aluminium is expected to make infrastructure less attractive to thieves and ensure service punctuality.
