Ex-Income Tax Officer Gets 6-Month RI in 19-Year-Old Bribery Case

Former Income Tax officer Deenanath Krishna Puthran sentenced to six months rigorous imprisonment.
•
The case dates back 19 years, involving a bribe of Rs 20,000 to finalize a tax security assessment.
•
Special CBI court in Thane also imposed a fine of Rs 4,000 on the 77-year-old accused.
•
Puthran was caught by CBI in 2007 after accepting the negotiated bribe from Samraj Naikar.
•
A Chartered Accountant and a tax assistant accused in the case were acquitted due to lack of direct evidence.
