Ladakh L-G directs plan for 50 new water bodies to combat climate change, boost water security
•Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena directed the administration to prepare a plan for creating 50 small water bodies across the Union Territory.
•The initiative aims to mitigate adverse impacts of climate change, including receding glaciers and depletion of the water table.
•These water bodies will address irrigation needs, strengthen local livelihoods, and conserve rainwater and melting snow.
•The plan, to be holistic and scientifically designed, must be prepared within 15 days, considering the region's unique conditions.
•They will also support roadside plantations, offer potential for winter sports, and include recreational amenities like parking and eateries.
