NGT Forms Panel to Probe Illegal Tree Felling at Meerut College

•National Green Tribunal (NGT) constitutes a panel to verify claims of illegal tree felling at Meerut College, Uttar Pradesh.
•Letter petition alleges the managing committee secretary is responsible for felling over 100 trees from the college and 1,000+ from Jaffra Garden.
•NGT bench, comprising Justice Prakash Shrivastava and A Senthil Vel, noted the allegations raise "substantial issues" regarding environmental compliance.
•Joint committee formed includes representatives from UP Pollution Control Board, District Magistrate, and Divisional Forest Officer, Meerut.
•Committee directed to visit the site, verify facts, suggest remedial action, and submit a report within a month.
