Punjab FM proposes Rs 15,377 crore for agriculture, allied sectors in 2026-27 budget
•Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema proposed Rs 15,377 crore for agriculture and allied sectors in the 2026-27 budget.
•A pilot project for crop diversification from paddy to kharif maize in six districts received Rs 15 crore allocation, offering Rs 17,500 per hectare incentive.
•Rs 600 crore is proposed for 2026-27 to subsidize stubble management machinery, with 80% for panchayats and 50% for individual farmers.
•Rs 40 crore allocated for 2026-27 to incentivize water-saving techniques like Direct Seeded Rice (DSR), following Rs 35 crore in 2025-26.
•Horticulture sector to receive Rs 1,300 crore over 10 years with JICA assistance for climate-resilient, high-value crops.
