Punjab to get 7 new medical colleges; 600 more MBBS seats added
•Health Minister Balbir Singh announced 7 new medical colleges for Punjab, significantly increasing medical education capacity.
•The project includes 2 government, 2 PPP, and 3 private/minority institutions, adding approximately 600 MBBS seats.
•Shaheed Udham Singh State Institute of Medical Sciences in Hoshiarpur: construction starts March 20, cost reduced by Rs 250 crore to Rs 274.75 crore.
•New government college in Kapurthala, PPP colleges in Sangrur & SBS Nagar, minority colleges in Lehragaga & Malerkotla, and a private college near Ludhiana.
•Existing medical colleges in Patiala, Amritsar, and Faridkot are being upgraded to postgraduate level for super-speciality services.
