SC Directs West Bengal to Pay DA Arrears to Employees from 2008-2019

• The Supreme Court ruled that dearness allowance (DA) is a legally enforceable right for employees.
• West Bengal government is directed to pay DA to its employees for the period 2008-2019.
• The state must pay 25% of the outstanding DA by March 6, with the first installment by March 31, 2026.
• A committee, including former SC judge Justice Indu Malhotra, will determine the total amount and payment schedule.
• Retired employees during the litigation period are also entitled to receive the DA benefits.
