Tata Steel Unveils First Scrap-Based Electric Arc Furnace in Ludhiana
•Tata Steel inaugurated its first scrap-based Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) facility in Ludhiana, marking a milestone in sustainable steelmaking.
•The Ludhiana EAF, built with an investment of approximately ₹3,200 crore, has a capacity of 0.75 million tonnes per annum and aims for CO₂ emissions less than 0.3 tonnes per tonne of steel.
•The plant will use 100% steel scrap as raw material, with 40% sourced from Tata Steel’s recycling plant in Rohtak, Haryana, and will use nearly 50% renewable energy.
•It will produce construction-grade steel rebar under the 'Tata Tiscon' brand, enhancing Tata Steel's market presence in the construction segment.
•This initiative is a significant step towards Tata Steel's commitment to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2045 and reflects the Tata Group’s dedication to a greener industrial future.
