CCI Orders Probe into IndiGo Over December Flight Cancellations, Fare Surge

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has initiated a detailed investigation into IndiGo for alleged abuse of dominant position.
  • The probe stems from large-scale flight disruptions in December 2025, including 2,507 cancellations and 1,852 delays, affecting over three lakh passengers.
  • Bengaluru resident Kartikeya Rawal filed a complaint, alleging his Delhi-Goa-Bengaluru flight was cancelled, and IndiGo subsequently charged excessive rebooking fares.
  • IndiGo's market share of 60-63% in domestic air passenger transport services in India led the CCI to define it as a dominant player.
  • The CCI rejected IndiGo's argument that airfare pricing and cancellations fall solely under DGCA jurisdiction, asserting its own complementary role.
