CCI Orders Antitrust Probe Against IndiGo Over Flight Cancellations, Fare Surge

  • The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has initiated an antitrust investigation into IndiGo.
  • The probe is for alleged abuse of dominant position following widespread flight cancellations and significant fare increases in December.
  • IndiGo attributed the disruptions to technical glitches, winter schedule changes, bad weather, congestion, and new flight duty time limitations (FDTL) norms.
  • The airline cancelled approximately 4,500 flights in the first week of December, stranding thousands of passengers.
  • The CCI's order directs its investigative arm, the Director General (DG), to examine if IndiGo violated the Competition Act by creating artificial scarcity and limiting consumer access during peak demand.
