Coal India's Gevra Mine to Become World's Largest by Next Year, Surpassing US Mines
•Coal India's Gevra block in Chhattisgarh is projected to become the world's top coal-producing mine by next year, aiming for 63 million tonnes.
•The Gevra mine, operated by SECL, will surpass the US's Black Thunder Mine (61-62 million tonnes) to claim the top spot.
•Currently, Gevra mine, India's largest opencast coal mine, is set to produce 56 million tonnes this year and has environmental clearance for 70 million tonnes annually.
•SECL CMD Harish Duhan confirmed readiness with land, machinery, manpower, and customer demand, supported by robust railway infrastructure.
•SECL also plans diversification into gasification, 700 MW solar projects, critical minerals JV with Chhattisgarh, and rare earth element extraction.
