US Producer Prices Jump 0.5% in January, Services Costs Surge
•
US producer prices rose 0.5% in January, exceeding estimates and indicating persistent underlying pressures for the Federal Reserve.
•
The increase was predominantly driven by services, which climbed 0.8%, the largest rise since July 2025.
•
Margins for trade services jumped 2.5%, with professional and commercial equipment wholesaling surging 14.4%.
•
Prices for final demand goods fell 0.3%, primarily due to a 2.7% drop in energy prices and a 1.5% slip in food prices.
•
Excluding volatile food and energy, goods prices rose 0.7%, and the core PPI (less foods, energy, and trade services) increased 0.3%.
