US Inflation Slows to 2.4% in January as Gas Prices and Rents Ease

US consumer price index (CPI) increased 2.4% year-on-year in January, down from 2.7% in December.

This marks the lowest annual inflation level since April 2025, shortly after President Donald Trump imposed tariffs.
•
Excluding food and energy, core CPI rose 2.5% from a year earlier, slightly below economists’ expectations.
