Assam: Woman Declared Foreigner Gets Indian Citizenship Under CAA

Deepali Das, 60, from Cachar district, previously declared a foreigner, granted Indian citizenship under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA).
•
She was arrested in 2019, spent nearly two years in a detention camp, and was released in 2021 following a Supreme Court directive.
•
Deepali Das applied for citizenship in February 2025, providing evidence of entering India in 1988 from Bangladesh due to religious persecution.
•
Her citizenship is effective from February 8, 1988, validating her existing documents like Voter ID and Aadhaar card.
•
Two other individuals, a 40-year-old woman from Sribhumi and a 61-year-old man from Cachar, also received Indian citizenship under the CAA.
