India Rejects China's Shaksgam Valley Claims, Calls 1963 Pact Illegal
- •India has strongly rejected China's territorial claims and infrastructure projects in the Shaksgam Valley.
- •Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi stated that the 1963 border agreement between Pakistan and China, ceding Shaksgam Valley territory, is illegal and invalid.
- •Pakistan illegally ceded 5,180 sq km of Indian territory in Shaksgam Valley to China in 1963.
- •China reiterated its claims, defending infrastructure projects as legitimate activities on its own territory.
- •India also does not recognize the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as it passes through Indian territory illegally occupied by Pakistan.
Why It Matters: India asserts Shaksgam Valley is Indian territory, rejecting China's claims and the 1963 Pakistan-China agreement.
