India's Digital Divide: 100 Crore Internet Users, Yet 2 in 5 Govt Schools Offline
•India boasts 1.02 billion internet subscribers, ranking among the top three globally, with 5G covering over 86% of the population.
•Despite widespread internet access, 4.19 lakh (approximately two in five) government schools nationwide still lack internet connectivity.
•Only 5.93 lakh out of 10.13 lakh government schools had internet in 2024-25, and only 5.34 lakh had functional computers for teaching.
•Internet access in government schools significantly improved from 10% in 2018-19 to 59% in 2024-25, but 4.19 lakh government schools remain offline.
•States like Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Bihar show remarkable progress in connecting government schools, while others like West Bengal lag significantly.
