Retired Police Officer Swindled: RTO APK File Leads to Rs 18,000 Cyber Fraud

Retired Police Inspector Ganme fell victim to cyber fraud after downloading an "RTO APK File" from a police WhatsApp group.
•
Believing the message from a traffic police constable's number was official, Ganme downloaded the suspicious APK file.
•
After clicking the link, he was prompted for personal info, raising suspicion; he then learned the constable's WhatsApp was hacked.
•
Rs 18,000 was debited from his HDFC Bank account approximately two hours after downloading the file.
•
A case has been registered, and police are investigating the cyber fraudsters who hacked the WhatsApp account and sent the malicious link.
