Unused UPI IDs are a liability: Secure your digital payments now!

• Dormant UPI IDs remain active and linked to your bank, posing risks like missed alerts and failed auto-debits.
• Conduct 'housekeeping': track all active UPI IDs across apps, as uninstalling an app doesn't deactivate the ID.
• If keeping an ID, reactivate by removing/adding the bank account and resetting the UPI PIN to clear old permissions.
• Before closing an ID, transfer all linked mandates (SIPs, EMIs) to your primary account to avoid penalties.
• Update your bank with your current mobile number; old, recycled numbers can expose OTPs and alerts to new owners.
