Delhi's DTC Bus Fleet Shrinks to 13-Year Low, Millions Affected

Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus fleet has decreased to 3,213, the lowest in 13 years, as per the Economic Survey 2025-26.
•
The number of daily DTC bus passengers has dropped by 44% since 2013-14, from 43.5 lakh to 24.3 lakh.
•
Challenges include an aging CNG bus fleet, delays in e-bus supply, and slow driver recruitment, despite new e-buses being inducted.
•
The share of electric buses has rapidly increased to 4,338 by March 2026, comprising over 70% of the total fleet.
•
Operational efficiency remains a concern, with fewer buses on the road daily and a significant reduction in total annual passengers.
