BEML-Medha Poised to Secure 16 High-Speed Trainset Order for Mumbai-Ahmedabad Corridor
•BEML-Medha Servo Drives is set to supply 16 high-speed trainsets for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project, as per Moneycontrol sources.
•The consortium submitted its bid to NHSRCL on March 19, following a single-vendor invitation to BEML in February.
•The 16 new trainsets are quoted at approximately Rs 250 crore per train, including a seven-year maintenance contract, with BEML handling carbody and interiors, and Medha providing propulsion systems and bogies.
•Indigenous content is expected to rise, with the first two prototypes having roughly 50% local components, and Knorr-Bremse establishing a manufacturing facility near Chennai.
•Commercial operations are likely to begin in phases, with the Surat–Bilimora section scheduled to open on August 15, 2027, using indigenous trainsets due to delays in Shinkansen procurement.
