Eastern Railway's 'Kavach' 4.0 Goes Live on Howrah-New Delhi High Density Route
•Eastern Railway successfully launched 'Kavach' Version 4.0 on the 260 km Howrah-Bardhaman-Chhota Ambona section of the Howrah-New Delhi High Density Route.
•'Kavach' is India's indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, developed by RDSO, certified with Safety Integrity Level 4 (SIL-4).
•It prevents Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD), provides in-cab signalling, and prevents head-on/rear-end collisions, enhancing safety for speeds up to 160 km/h.
•The project, started in July 2022, now covers 229 Route Kilometers (RKM) in West Bengal and 31 RKM in Jharkhand, including 47 stations and 13 level crossing gates.
•Technical scope includes 7,897 RFID tags, 60 UHF antenna towers, 520 km optical fiber, and Kavach on 118 WAP5/WAP7 locomotives and one EMU.
