Harivallabh Mohanlal Joshi, 100, former MP DGP, is believed to be the last surviving officer of India's first 1948 IPS batch.

As DIG Gwalior in 1969, he masterminded an operation that eliminated 17 dacoits, including Jagmohan Tomar, in Chambal.

Joshi's strategy involved coordinating SPs of Bhind and Morena and utilizing local informers like Sahariya tribals.
•
He strengthened police structure by deploying LMGs at section level and forming village-level defense committees.
•
Honored with the President's Police and Fire Service Medal and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.
