Howrah Station's Mega Makeover: Set to Outpace Airports by 2030

Kolkata's 173-year-old Howrah Railway Station, one of India's oldest and busiest, is undergoing a major expansion.
•
Indian Railways plans to double train capacity by 2030, extending platforms and building new ones to reduce congestion.
•
Platforms 14 and 15 extended to over 580 meters to accommodate 22-24 coach Mail/Express trains.
•
Two new platforms (24 and 16) are under construction to segregate local and long-distance services.
•
The expansion aims to improve passenger convenience, reduce waiting times, and allow longer trains.
