ANPR Cameras to Catch Speeders: 84% Accidents Due to Overspeeding

• Advanced ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) cameras are being deployed to curb road accidents caused by overspeeding.
• Statistics reveal that approximately 84% of all road accidents are solely due to overspeeding, leading to 83,000 fatalities in 2.57 lakh accidents over 11 years.
• ANPR cameras offer high-resolution scanning, work in adverse weather, and detect multiple violations like signal jumping, wrong-way driving, and lane indiscipline.
• These cameras also record driver behavior, including not wearing seatbelts or using mobile phones while driving, with photographic evidence.
• In the first phase, 30 ANPR cameras will be installed over 90 kilometers on the Outer Ring Road (ORR), Gachibowli-Shamshabad route, PV Narasimha Rao Expressway, and national highways.
