Jiya Rai Makes History: Swims 28km in 6 Hours, Sets New World Record

Azamgarh's Jiya Rai, a para-swimmer, covered 28 km in 6 hours 10 minutes at the 35th Veer Savarkar All India Sea Swimming Competition.
•
She became the world's first para-swimmer to participate in this competition, swimming from Adhri coast to Veraval, Gujarat.
•
Jiya is the first Indian woman to complete this general category competition, held since 1967.
•
The 18-year-old, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder, is India's first female world record holder in open water swimming.
•
She has received numerous awards, including the Prime Minister National Children's Award (2022) and the National Disability Award (2023).
