Satendra Singh Lohiya makes history, first Asian para-swimmer to cross Cook Strait
•
India's Satendra Singh Lohiya became the first Asian para-swimmer to successfully cross the challenging Cook Strait in New Zealand.
•
Lohiya, a Padma Shri awardee from Madhya Pradesh, completed the 23.6km swim in nine hours and 22 minutes.
•
His legs were disabled in infancy due to lack of proper treatment for diarrhea, but he began open water sea swimming in 2017.
•
He previously crossed the English Channel in 2018 and has won numerous national and international medals.
•
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav congratulated Lohiya, highlighting his indomitable spirit and determination.
