Potato Harvest: Avoid These 5 Sun Mistakes to Protect Your Crop
•
Dig potatoes early morning or evening; avoid strong midday sun to prevent skin burn and greening.
•
Immediately after digging, cover potatoes with straw to protect them from open air, light, and moisture loss.
•
Manage soil moisture before digging: avoid very dry soil (scratches) or very wet soil (rot in storage).
•
Cure potatoes in a shaded, airy place for a few days before storage to harden skin, heal wounds, and boost disease resistance.
•
Sort thoroughly (remove damaged/diseased); use clean, airy bags (jute); cover during transport; ensure gradual cooling and balanced temperature-humidity in cold storage.
