India's 'Superfast Ticketing' System: 125,000 Bookings Per Minute
•Indian Railways is investing Rs 1,000 crore to upgrade its Passenger Reservation System (PRS) for a fivefold increase in booking capacity.
•The new system, dubbed 'Superfast Ticketing', will handle 125,000 bookings per minute, up from the current 25,000.
•Phase 2 of PRS Modernization, approved in 2022 with Rs 183 crore, is spearheaded by CRIS and aims for an August 2026 rollout.
•The overhaul includes a complete network makeover, from routers to bandwidth links, and will feature real-time dynamic traffic management and a multilingual interface.
•The new platform will run on open-source software, ensuring flexibility, scalability, and no reliance on a single vendor, addressing long-standing issues of the 1985-era system.
