EC to Host National Conference of State Election Commissioners After 25 Years

• The Election Commission (EC) will host a national conference for State Election Commissioners (SECs) on February 24 in New Delhi, the first such meeting in over 25 years.
• Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, will chair and address the conference.
• SECs, their legal and technical experts, and Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) from all 36 States and Union Territories are expected to attend.
• The conference aims to build synergy between the EC and SECs, focusing on electoral laws, elector eligibility, and technological interventions like the ECINET platform and EVMs.
• The EC will share its expertise to strengthen coordination, as SECs are responsible for conducting polls to Panchayats and Municipal Bodies under the 73rd and 74th Constitutional Amendments.
