Kochi Airport Pioneers India's First Hydrogen Buses for Passenger Transport

• Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) will introduce India's first hydrogen-powered passenger buses, marking a significant step towards green mobility in aviation.
• A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was exchanged between Kerala Hydrogen Valley Innovation Cluster Foundation and CIAL for the procurement and operation of three hydrogen fuel cell electric buses.
• The project is part of the Kerala Hydrogen Valley initiative under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, with the Foundation providing financial support of Rs 2.90 crore per bus, totaling Rs 8.7 crore.
• CIAL will own and operate the buses, managing all operational expenses and determining routes, with procurement expected within 12 months.
• Fuel will be supplied by a green hydrogen plant jointly developed by CIAL and BPCL, positioning Kochi airport at the forefront of clean energy transition in aviation transport.
