•Curfew in Meghalaya's East Garo Hills relaxed for 5 hours (8 am to 1 pm) on Thursday to allow residents to procure essential items.
•The curfew was imposed following violence in adjoining West Garo Hills district, where two persons died during protests.
•Violence erupted over opposition to non-Garo communities participating in Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) election nominations.
•Police firing on a mob in Chibinang resulted in two deaths and several injuries; incidents of arson and property damage also occurred.
•Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma postponed the GHADC elections (scheduled for April 10), and mobile internet services were suspended across five Garo Hills districts.
