Meghalaya Guv convenes special GHADC session over CEM's lost confidence
•
Meghalaya Governor C H Vijayashankar convened a special session of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on March 16.
•
The session was called after 21 MDCs claimed Chief Executive Member (CEM) Albinush R Marak lost the House's confidence.
•
The Governor exercised powers under Rule 36(5) of the Assam and Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951.
•
This political development follows CEM Marak's controversial notification barring non-tribals from contesting GHADC elections.
•
The notification led to protests, violence, arson, and two deaths in Garo Hills, prompting curfews and security deployment.
