MMRDA Unveils Rs 48,000 Crore Plan to Transform Thane & Kalyan into Urban Engines
•Deputy CM Eknath Shinde approves a sweeping Rs 48,000 crore infrastructure plan for Mumbai Metropolitan Region's eastern growth corridor.
•Thane to become a transport nerve centre with projects like the 12-km Thane-Borivali twin tunnel (Rs 18,838 crore) and expanded Metro connectivity.
•Kalyan-Dombivli is set to evolve into a self-sustained urban centre with a Rs 2,500-3,500 crore expansion plan, including the Rs 1,239 crore Kalyan Ring Road.
•The strategy shifts from Mumbai-centric development to distributed urban growth, aiming to reduce pressure on the island city.
•The plan includes significant road infrastructure upgrades, civic improvements, and fast-tracking of Poshir and Shilar dam works for water supply.
