L&T Secures 'Significant' LIGO India Observatory Order in Maharashtra

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Ltd. won a 'significant' order for the LIGO India Observatory from the Department of Atomic Energy.
•
The order, valued between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore, involves heavy civil infrastructure and heavy engineering.
•
The observatory will be located at Aundha in Hingoli district, Maharashtra, and is a flagship 'mega science' project.
•
L&T's scope includes high-precision civil infrastructure, 8km beam tube manufacturing, and critical vacuum equipment installation.
•
The project, with a 48-month completion deadline, involves detecting gravitational waves using laser interferometry.
