IIT Bombay Boosts D2M Broadcasting with B2X Focus, Aims for Global Standardisation

• IIT Bombay has joined India's Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) ecosystem, expanding efforts to modernize broadcast infrastructure alongside Prasar Bharati, IIT Kanpur, and Tejas Networks.
• India's D2M initiatives are based on ATSC 3.0, enabling high-quality video and data delivery to mobile devices without cellular connectivity.
• IIT Bombay's research aims to contribute to the next release of ATSC, focusing on B2X (Broadcast-to-Everything) to extend broadcasting to IoT devices, vehicles, drones, and 6G networks.
• A B2X Global Centre of Excellence will be established at IIT Bombay for trials and validation, with Sinclair Inc. collaborating on technology and standardisation.
• B2X is expected to strengthen public service broadcasting, enable cost-efficient content delivery, and ensure deep convergence with 4G, 5G, and future 6G telecom networks.
