Andhra Ranks 6th Nationally in Organ Donation, Jeevan Daan Boosts Efforts
•Andhra Pradesh secured sixth place nationally in organ donation, Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced, citing NOTTO data.
•The Jeevan Daan initiative, launched in 2015, has significantly increased public participation and improved organ donation outcomes.
•The number of hospitals conducting organ transplant surgeries in the state has risen from three to nine, including KGH, VIMS, GGH, SVIMS, and AIIMS.
•In the first two months of 2024, 64 organs were retrieved from 18 brain-dead donors, benefiting 64 patients, marking an increase from previous years.
•Currently, 5,347 patients are awaiting organs; the state provides Rs 10,000 immediate financial aid to donor families, with a proposal to increase it to Rs 1 lakh.
